The deputy minister of health and social services Dr Esther Muinjangue announced 114 new Covid-19 cases as well as 183 recoveries on Thursday.

Muinjangue said that 1 264 test results were received from the laboratories; of the new cases 69 are female and 45 are male, with the youngest patient aged 2-years and the oldest is 77.

The confirmed cases are distributed as follows: Windhoek (62), Swakopmund (10), Walvis Bay (3), and Omaruru (1), Oshakati (9), Gobabis (7), Keetmanshoop (4), Karasburg (4), Okahandja (4), Rehoboth (3), Engela (3), Onandjokwe (1), Omuthiya (1), Rundu (1) and Outapi (1).

“For the last three days, our daily new cases were below 100, after we reported 115 cases on the 13 September 2020. We continue to monitor the situation to see how it will unfold moving forward. Cumulatively, we have recorded a total of 10 078 Covid-19 cases. This is about 0.4% of the population infected,” Muinjangue said.

All 14 regions have reported confirmed cases, with Khomas and Erongo regions reporting the highest number at 4 751 (47.1%) and 3 742 (37.1%) respectively, while Kavango West recorded the least number of cases at 8 (0.1%).

The Erongo region have 3 741 confirmed cases, of which 69 are currently active and 3 637 recovered. The region also recorded 35 deaths.

The current epicentre is Windhoek, with 4 751 cases of which 1 693 are currently active and 3 006 recovered. The capital recorded 52 deaths.

The deputy minister also announced 183 recoveries from the Khomas (79), Otjozondjupa (78), Oshikoto (25) and Omaheke (1) regions.

She said that of the active cases, 16 are in serious to critical condition. In the Erongo region, one patient is seriously ill while four are critical. In the Khomas region, three are in a serious condition and six are critical. In the Oshana region, two patients are seriously ill.
