Mondesa robbery suspects apprehended

Two men wanted for a robbery with aggravating circumstances and theft of a motor vehicle were arrested during an undercover operation in the DRC informal settlement of Swakopmund.

The duo was on the run for more than three months. According to deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, the regional crime investigations coordinator, the 24 and 25-year-old suspects were arrested on Sunday morning (2 January) around 04:00. “The two men will appear in the Swakopmund magistrate’s court on Monday.”

A garage owner was also arrested some time ago for his alleged part in the crime, after parts of the red Polo that was stolen during the robbery were recovered in the roof of a garage in Kuisebmond. The vehicle was stolen during a robbery that occurred on 26 October, during the early morning hours at 02:30 in Mondesa. Andreas David “Gliso” and Kleopas “Vetso" were the two suspects implicated in the robbery.

The victim Dr Sean De Jager (73) who is staying alone, was asleep when he heard someone knocking at the door. He peeped through the window and observed two young male persons
(suspects) that he recognised as friends to his adopted son. He opened the door for them, and while inside the house, they grabbed him from behind, overpowered him and assaulted him.
The suspects took two cellphones, car keys and the house keys before they locked the victim inside the house and drove away with his motor vehicle; a red VW Polo Vivo registration no.
N1198R which was parked in front of the house. The victim managed to loosen himself and escaped through the bathroom window and reported the matter at Mondesa Police station.
