Minimumloon vandag in die kollig

Verteenwoordigers van die arbeidsministerie, werkgewersorganisasies en vakbonde gaan vandag voorstelle vir die implementering van 'n nasionale minimumloon bespreek.

Die ministerie van arbeid voer vandag samesprekings oor die voorgestelde nasionale minimumloon in die ouditorium van die ministerie van visserye en mariene hulpbronne op Swakopmund.

Die instelling van 'n nasionale minimumloon het ten doel om die salarisse en lewenstandaarde van die laags besoldigde werknemer te verbeter en ongelykheid in inkomste te verminder om sodoende armoede te verlig.

Die ministerie het in Februarie vanjaar by wyse van 'n vrystelling aangekondig dat besprekings oor kwessies vir 'n minimumloon, onder meer hoe lone bereken word (per uur, dag, weekliks, tweeweekliks of jaarliks) aangepak gaan word.

Die ministerie is 'n voorstander van 'n vasgestelde werkloon vir deeltydse werknemers en/of 'n voorgestelde minimum hoeveelheid werksure per dag.

Die vrystelling gee ook 'n ­uiteensetting van die moontlikhede van jaarlikse loonverhogings om die erosie van minimumlone te voorkom en die aanpassing daarvan in lyn met lewenskostes te bewerkstellig.
