The 2019 edition of the Michael Skini Charity Cup will take place at the Omdel Stadium in Henties Bay from 5 to 6 October.

The event will once again be concluded with a music bash.

The competition was first held in 2015 and took place annually ever since.

Last year, 38 teams took part in the soccer tournament and the aim is to have 42 teams competing this year. The defending champions Black Arrows from Keetmanshoop defeated Karibib Eleven in a penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw in fulltime.

This year, the winner of the cup will receive N$20 000 in prize money, while the runner- up will walk away with N$10 000. The two losing semifinalists will get N$5 000 each.

The player of the tournament, top goal scorer of the tournament, goalkeeper of the tournament receive trophies and N$500 each.

The longest standing team from Henties Bay will also receive N$500 and trophy.

Henties Bay councilor, Michael Skini explained the tournament was introduced in order give back to needy members of the community.

“The Michael Skini Charity Cup has been the brainchild of few community members who approached me to spearhead the initiative with the purpose of ploughing back into the community. The proceeds of last year were used to host a dinner for pensioners, sponsor various top performers at primary schools and to cover the funeral costs of persons no being able to afford this service.”

The other objectives of the event include assisting the vulnerable members of the community of Henties Bay, focusing mainly on the pensioners and people living with disabilities as well as to renovate dilapidated and damaged houses of pensioners.

The soccer tournament also seeks to explore and expose the hidden talent of the youth to be scouted for professional levels of football and to boost the economy of the town by pooling large number of people to Henties Bay.
