The office of the governor recently donated 32 matrasses and 64 blankets to the directorate of education, in a bid to address the growing need in the region’s school hostels.
One of the hostels set to benefit, is from the Swakopmund Secondary School.
“We renovated a few hostel blocks recently and some blankets will be issued. Additionally, through the education directorate’s MTEF budget, we have decided to also renovate the Dibasen Secondary School hostel as it burnt down a few years ago. There is a need, but the budget is not enough,” said Erongo regional director of education, Ernfrieda Stephanus.
She thanked the office of the governor for the timely donation.
The schools that are set to benefit from the donation are the secondary schools Dibasen (16 mattresses), Otjiperongo (16 mattresses), Otjohorongo (20 blankets), JP Brand (15 blankets), !Oe-#Gab (15 blankets) and Swakopmund (10 blankets).
Erongo governor Neville Andre urged the regional education directorate to ensure that the donated items are utilised for their intended purposes and well looked after.
