Local favourite Allan Martin along with his navigator Maretha Olivier, emerged victorious at the 2021 NAMCOR Swakop Rally.

The duo clocked a time of 55:00 in their Skoda.

Martin expressed his delight at scooping first prize.

“Winning is always great. It is not everything and people always say I am being modest for saying so, but I had fun.”

According to the ace racer, he experienced butterflies in his stomach for the first time and his foot was jumping off the pedal.

“That’s why I say it was truly an exciting rally. It is awesome to win, especially when it is a hometown rally.”

He also paid tribute to his navigator Maretha Olivier. “Without her I am worth nothing and won’t be able to achieve such feats.”

Olivier labelled the race an incredible experience. “I enjoyed it tremendously.”

She added that navigating is not only for men.

“I am proof of that, because they can see that women also have what it takes to perform. We keep winning!

Over 19 vehicles raced through eight stages of the adrenaline-packed, event which started at the soon-to-be openened NAMCOR service station in Swakopmund before ending near the Swakop Go Karts track.

There were four categories competing namely S1, S2, S3 and S4, two for the challenge class (for off-road cars) CR1 and CR2 with the CR3 class consisting of four-wheel and two-wheel bakkies.

Martin, who is also the main organiser of the rally, said that the event was a success.

“We had a couple of breakages during the day, but many of the racers managed to finish – so we are happy.”
