Stella Naruses; Co-organiser; “I am really impressed by the contestants…”
The season one finale of the Welwitschia Music Production (WMP) Ma /Gaisa Star Search competition is set to take place at the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) in Windhoek on Friday.
The top five contestants will duel for the coveted title as well as the ultimate prize.
The top five contestants who go simply by their stage names are Antivorenasi, MarvTown, Ricky-G, Devine and Ireen. They remained the last participants standing from over 180 applicants since the competition started.
Event co-organiser Stella Naruses said that she has been swept away by the talent that she witnessed in the competition. “I am really impressed by the contestants, especially those who made it to the top 5”.
Naruses said that the top five have grown since she first saw them at the beginning of the competition. “We tested them then and now, and they have proven to be able to deliver.”
In an earlier interview, WMP executive Steven Naruseb said that the kind of singer they are looking for, would have to be someone like the late Phura Duwe, who was his favourite musician. “He made Ma /Gaisa popular amongst Namibians. He did not necessarily have the best voice, but he was a great entertainer and performer. That is the kind of people I want,” he said.
The top three will each get the opportunity to produce a single with three top producers. The eventual winner will win a recording deal, with these producers to record a full-length album. The deal includes marketing, distribution as well as promotion of their music for a year and is valued at N$100 000.
Naruseb thanked the National Arts Council of Namibia (NACN) who availed a grant of N$30 000 to WMP as part of the Covid-19 artist relief fund.
Tickets for the final cost N$200 each and are available from Creative Concepts (081 250 7833). However, only a limited amount of guests will be allowed to attend in order to adhere to Covid-19 regulations. Anyone that comes without a mask will not be permitted to enter the venue.
