Laerskool ontvang broodnodige geriewe

Vriende in Duitsland samel geld in om Namibiese leerlinge by te staan.

Drie ou klaskamers is opgeknap en omskep in slaapplek vir graad 7-seuns by die Laerskool JP Brandt te danke aan Ohorongo Cement se trust vir maatskaplike verantwoordelikheid (die Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust, OOCT) en die Duitse nie-regeringsorganisasie, Support Ulm e.V.

Die skool is op die oewers van die Kuisebrivier, oos van Walvisbaai, geleë.

Die twee organisasies het ablusie- en stortgeriewe vir die graad 1-meisies en graad 7-seuns gebou, wat bestaan uit twee storte, twee toilette en twee wasbakke vir die meisies en drie van elk vir die seuns.

Mnr. Heinz Maier van Support Ulm e.V. het meer as N$200 000 onder vriende in Duitsland ingesamel vir dié inisiatief.

“Ons sien die impak van Covid-19, veral op gemarginaliseerde gemeenskappe. Ons kon nie net sit en toekyk hoe die kinders van hierdie woestynskool hul onderwysopvoeding misloop nie,” het hy gesê.

Die OOCT se administrateur, mnr. Rudolf Coetzee, het by die oorhandi­ging gesê onderwys is 'n prioriteit vir Ohorongo.

“Die kinders van JP Brandt sal ons toekomstige sementvervaardigers en kliënte wees. Dit is net reg om te verseker hulle word onderrig in 'n bevorderlike leeromgewing. ”

Die skoolhoof, mev. Anna-Mildrid Josti, het gesê die kinders deel tans fasiliteite, wat 'n risiko is omdat Covid-19 so maklik versprei.

“Dit is jammer die mense van Support Ulm e.V. is nie self hier om die vrugte van hul arbeid te kan sien nie. Ons bedank OOCT vir die fasilitering van hierdie gebaar. Met die hulp van hierdie skenkers kan ons leerlinge gemakliker lewe en sal hulle nou meer op skoolwerk kan fokus.”

Die Laerskool JP Brandt akkommodeer 280 leerlinge waarvan die meerderheid uit die Topnaar-gemeenskap en werknemers van visfabrieke op Walvisbaai kom.

Die OOCT and Support Ulm e.V. het oor die jare gereeld tot onderwys in Namibië bygedra, onder meer vir die oprigting van 'n kleuterskool by Gam in die Otjozondjupastreek en die verspreiding van skoolhandboeke vir graad 3 tot 7 landswyd.
