The first King of the Ring Championship takes place in Swakopmund next Saturday (16 November). The event is sanctioned by the Namibian Kickboxing Federation (NKF) in conjunction with Erongo Region Boxing Board.

“This event will be especially exciting as the Namibia Ring Contact Fighting Arts International (RCFAI) & Kickboxing Academy have invited the best boxers to take part. Selected kickboxers will challenge boxers in various matches, with three titles up for grabs,” said Anita de Klerk, president of the NKF.

Thirty boxers from various categories ranging from juniors (35kg - 52kg) to seniors (52kg - 91kg) will produce 15 fights in total. This includes three title fights between Delano Müller (Walvis Bay) and Robert Shimweneni (Swakopmund); Lesley !Hoeb (Walvis Bay)and Martin Kambalili (Swakopmund); and Ruben Shilongo (Walvis Bay) and Oiva Uitele (Windhoek).

The event starts with kickboxing whereafter the boxing follows.

De Klerk said there much anticipation for the event due to the fact that Namibia RCFAI will use their newly purchased ring for the first time.

“Respect between boxers and kickboxers is to be admired and they support each other. Women and girls will also compete in the event. In future we aim to host King of the Ring Championships annually. To promote boxing with kickboxing is sure to be a winning combination.”

She added that some of the participating boxers competed in Morocco at the African Games as well as at various national and international competitions.

The event starts at 12:00 and takes place at the Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre’s Spitzkoppe hall. Everyone is welcome to share in this very exciting event.
