Kabeljou kraai koning op Henties

Die jaarlikse Hengelbonanza was weer goed bygewoon, met oorgenoeg pret en plesier vir oud en jonk.

Familiegeleenthede was aan die orde van die dag en oudergewoondte het die Windhoek Draught Hengelbonanza weer op 26 Desember op Hentiesbaai plaasgevind, met yslike pryse op die spel.

Teen 06:00 was die eerste lyne reeds natgemaak en vir die daaropvolgende 10 ure was dit ’n gesoek, geroei en gestoei om die grootste vangs vir die dag aan die hoek te kry.

Nagenoeg ’n duisend hengelaars het deelgeneem en daar kon vanaf Paaltjies tot by die Ugabriviermond gehengel word. Mark Nederlof, een van die organiseerders, het gesê die dag was ’n groot sukses.

“Ons het 933 kaartjies verkoop en daar het mooi visse ingekom. Dit is mos maar altyd ’n uitdaging om ’n gedoente van dié aard aan te pak, maar ons verbeter voortdurend daarop.”

Michiel Hattingh het 11:00 reeds die algehele bonanza wenner uitgetrek, hoewel hy tot op die laaste nog onseker was dat dié vis vir hom die groot prys sou besorg.

“’n Mens weet mos nooit regtig hoe dinge gaan verloop tot die oomblik wanneer die skale amptelik sluit nie. Enigiets kan gebeur.”

Hattingh se kabeljou het 15,02 kg geweeg en is op ’n kombinasie van sardyn en tjokka in die Canopy-area uitgetrek. Die vis het vir hom N$30 000 in die sak gebring.

Eugene Bouwer is N$10 000 ryker huis toe, met ’n kabeljou van 14,245 kg wat by Paaltjies uitgetrek het, terwyl Werner Voigt die grootse kabeljou wat ingeweeg is, se gewig met ongeveer 2 kg gemis het. Hy het ook sy trofeevis by Paaltjies aan wal gebring.

Jean Lewis se wen-steenbras was maar 130 g swaarder as Jurian Rabie se vis van 7,865 kg wat die tweede plek ingepalm het. Rabie het sy steenbras by Myl 106 uitgetrek. Lewis en Hans Strydom, wat die derde grootste steenbras van die dag ingeweeg het, se visse is albei by Myl 72 aan wal gebring.

Romeo Moller het N$1 000 in sy sak gesteek toe hy die grootste barber vir die dag ingeweeg het.

Ricku Mans se 1,650 kg wen-dassie is by Myl 72 gevang, terwyl John Moir sy dassie wat ’n skrale 50 g minder geweeg het, by Myl 106 gevang is. Nog ’n 50 g verskil in gewig het vir Daniël Dry se Myl 14-dassie wat op 1,155 kg geweeg is, ’n derde plek besorg.

Boeta van Heerden het in die loodjie wat jaarliks getrek word by die kompetisie, ’n geskenkbewys van Gondwana gewen. Hannes Siebert is met twee nagte vir twee by die Swakopmund Plaza Hotel huis toe.

Die hengelaars was egter nie nét agter prysgeld aan nie. Die vis is opgeveil, met inkomstes wat ten bate van die ontwikkeling van jong hengelaars bydra.

Ná die prysuitdeling het die hengelaars met hul families en vriende die familiegees, wat steeds in die lug gehang het, geniet.

In die algemeen het die viswaters hengelaars goed behandel die afgelope week, met Myl 72 en Myl 14 wat die meeste vis opgelewer het. Die voorspellings vir die week lyk dus goed met die branders wat rustiger gaan raak.

Hengelaars moet onthou dat Paaltjies vanaf 1 Januarie 2020 tot 31 Maart 2020 gesluit sal wees vir die hengel van kabeljou.
