Jaliza; Musician; “My new album is something different…”
The Swakopmund-based Ma/Gaisa singer Jaliza (29) is ready to wow her fans with a new album after a lengthy hiatus.
The “Ditsa ta ra” (meaning “I try to do my best”) hit maker said that she is busy with her next album and promises that this will exceed her fans’ expectations.
“My new album is something different from what the Jaliza brand stood for back in the day. For this album I added new genres because it is the homecoming of the new Jaliza brand. I promise it will be a mind-blowing experience!”
Her newly released single “Kai/goas” (which means “a big girl”), represents the singer as a woman and not just as an artist.
“It emancipates me in all aspects. The concept behind this single is for every person to stand firm for what they believe in, no matter comes their way.”
Jaliza produced a soulful and memorable performance at the Namibian Annual Music Awards in Swakopmund last year.
For the new album, she worked with a number of producers, including Glo Solani and Bosely “KBoz” Keya, and collaborated with Top Cheri, Tswazis and many more artists.
Having spent six years in Swakopmund, Jaliza recently relocated to Windhoek due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the Erongo region. She is now considering permanently living in the capital city where she was born.
“My home is all about music and being surrounded by musical gems. I couldn't have asked for more,” she said.
Jaliza started as a backup vocalist for award winning artist Ander Donkey and jazz singer Patricia Oxurus.
She says she draws musical inspiration from the South African legend, Brenda Fassie.
“I remember putting up posters of Brenda on my bedroom walls and singing along with her songs. I still cover her songs whenever I perform.”
Jaliza thanked her fans for their support, saying that the new album will be a love letter to them.
Jaliza’s debut album #Gom tere (“believe me”) was released in 2013.
