Glenn Clifford Leister; Suspect; “I will retain my lawyer.”
Glenn Clifford Leister (27) made another brief appearance before the Swakopmund magistrate’s court on Wednesday.
Leister stands accused of allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl recovering from Covid-19 at the Swakopmund Rest Camp, which was an isolation facility at the time.
Magistrate Nelao Brown transferred the case to the regional court and subsequently postponed it to 29 October.
This was the second time this week that Leister appeared before the court after having done so on Monday. At the first occasion, the prosecutor general’s decision was still pending, while during the latest hearing, state prosecutor Johannes Shangadi told magistrate Brown that the prosecutor general’s decision is available.
Upon inquiry by the court, Leister indicated that he would retain his legal representative, Jan Wessels, who was absent from the proceedings on Wednesday. “I will retain the lawyer I have,” the accused said, who at a previous hearing in September pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Leister will remain in custody at the Swakopmund police holding cells until his next appearance.
