Inwoners is onsteld oor ’n voorstel om die Nasionale Jeugsentrum op Hentiesbaai as ’n kwarantynfasiliteit te gebruik.

Hentiesbaai se inwoners is onstoke oor die teenwoordigheid van Covid-19-pasiënte wat op die kusdorp in kwarantyn gehou word.

Die minister van gesondheid en maatskaplike dienste, dr Kalumbi Shangula, het egter bevestig dat die groep wat tans op die dorp gehuisves word, nie positief vir die virus getoets het nie, maar wel daarvoor getoets is en nou op die uitslae wag.

“Hierdie mense is gevalle wat deur kontakopsporing en ander maniere van identifikasie gevind is,” het die minister verduidelik.

Vir ’n Hentiesbaai inwoner wat verkies om anoniem te bly, gaan dit egter meer oor die halsband as die hond.

“Daar is ’n huis waar die dokters en verpleegsters wat by die fasiliteit werk en in aanraking kom met die pasiënte, geakkommodeer is. Die huis is langs die outehuis geleë en oorkant die straat is ’n eenheid vir persone met Alzheimers. Die mense wat by die fasilitiet werk word geensins verhoed om inkopies te doen en vrylik in die dorp rond te beweeg nie,” sê sy.

Bejaardes is veral kwesbaar vir die virus.

“Dit is vir ons inwoners glad nie goed nie en nog só op die oumense se voorstoep.”

Volgens Hentiesbaai se burgemeester, Herman /Honeb, is daar tot sy kennis geen mense in die kwarantynfasiliteit op die dorp nie.

“Ons kantoor het nog geen amptelike woord ontvang oor enige pasiënte of vermoede gevalle wat daar gehuisves is nie. Ons verstaan die huidige situasie en ons simpatiseer, daarom wil ons alles in ons vermoë doen om te help. Ons het hierdie plek afgestaan spesifiek vir dié doeleinde. So vêr my kennis strek, is daar tans geen gevaar nie. Sou pasiënte daar gehuisves word, sal ons graag meer wil weet oor die veiligheidsmaatreëls wat gevolg word om ons inwoners te beskerm.”

Op verdere navraag het minister Shangula gesê die gesondheidsdirekteur in die streek, Anna Jonas, kan bevestig of daar enige persone is tans by hierdie fasiliteit gehuisves word.

Vrae wat aan Jonas gestuur is, het egter onbeantwoord gebly.
