Safer eating option

The in-car meal service offered by the Strand Hotel is a unique experience, offering an alternative for customers, says general manager Jaco Welgemoed.

“At the moment, people are excited to again sit in a restaurant and enjoy a meal and a drink. The in-car service has slowed down, but it is still there for customers to enjoy,” he said.

Also known as the “plankie”, the initiative, which was introduced during Covid-19 times, allows guests to order take aways instead of sitting in restaurant.

“With the in-car service, customers can order a meal and enjoy it while they are seated in their vehicles. Customers sit in the car park and we serve them the meal on a plank with full waitering services. It is still ongoing, if people ask for it we will gladly comply,” he said.

According to Welgemoed, there are no additional costs for this option.

“Some people are not comfortable with sitting in a full restaurant, so it remains a great choice from a safety point of view,” he said.
