Walvis Bay Salt Holdings het N$100 000 vir die verligting van droogte omstandighede in die Erongo-streek beskikbaar gestel.

Die besturende direkteur van die maatskappy, Andre Snyman, het die skenking aan Erongo se goewerneur, Cleophas Mutjavikua, en sy spesiale raadgewer, Adelheid Bobby Kandjala, oorhandig.

Mutjavikua het die skenking verwelkom en gesê dit sal gebruik word vir die doel waarvoor dit bestem is.

Hy het gesê die streek het ook hulp van die sentrale regering en verskeie ander maatskappye gekry. “Ons het tot dusver N$1,3 miljoen ontvang vir droogtehulp en -verligting. Die regering het N$700 000 beskikbaar gestel, en die Navachab-goudmyn en Huab Fishing het onderskeidelik N$500 000 en N$100 000 geskenk. Dié geld is direk aan verskaffers oorbetaal. ”

Die goewerneur het gesê Walvis Bay Salt Holdings het vroeër ook geld vir die kantoor van die eerste minister se droogtehulpverligting-program bygedra.

“Die situasie is verskriklik. Ons kan nie die streek met enige ander vergelyk wat betref die impak van die voortdurende droogte nie. Diere beweeg en spring oor heinings. Hulle soek na gras op buurplase. Dit is nou al 'n daaglikse verskynsel. My kantoor word oorval met klagtes en ons moet hierdie konflik hanteer. ”

Snyman het gesê die erns van die droogte het die maatskappy gemotiveer om op te tree.

“Ons loof die goewerneur se kantoor vir die goeie werk wat gedoen word te midde van moeilike omstandighede. Walvis Bay Salt Holdings is betrokke by talle korporatiewe-sosiale projekte. Die maatskappy borg Wiskunde-onderwys met N$3 miljoen en ondersteun ook 15 kinders by 'n weeshuis op Walvisbaai. Ons hoop van harte dat die bietjie wat ons bydra, 'n betekenisvolle verskil in die lewe van ons boere en hul diere gaan maak.”
