Hulp vir bejaardes

Spar Swakopmund het weens Covid-inperkings besluit om hulp aan die dorp se bejaardes te verleen.

Vir bejaardes, wat as kwesbaar vir die Covid-19-virus beskou word, is die alledaagse lewe deur die pandemie omver gegooi.

Spar Swakopmund het besluit om hand by te sit met 'n skenking van kospakkies ter waarde van N$20 000 aan Swakopmund se bejaardes.

Die Welwitschia-ouetehuis was een van die instansies wat by hierdie skenking gebaat het.

Mnr. Robert Tschudin, die opsigter by Welwitschia-ouetehuis, het die skenking verwelkom. “Dit is wonderlik om te sien hoe die gemeenskap vir ons bejaardes sorg.”

Tschudin sê pensioenarisse is nie die ekonomiese druk gespaar wat met die pandemie gepaard gaan nie.



Geld skaars

“Almal het gely vanweë die ekonomie. Baie van ons inwoners het altyd geld van hul kinders en families ontvang, maar toe mense hul werk begin verloor, kon baie van die kinders nie meer help nie.”

Volgens Tschudin verdien die kerke op Swakopmund ook lof vir hul gereelde bystand. Hy vertel die oue­tehuis se maatskaplike werkers het ook 'n groot rol gespeel met bystand van hul inwoners.

“In hierdie tyd was dit vir die mense baie moeilik om hul families te sien en ons maatskaplike werkers het regtig alles ingesit om gees te bou. Ons is ongelukkig nie meer jonk nie, so ons kan nie meer dans en rondspring nie. Ons sien ook nie altyd kans vir hierdie jolige aktiwiteite nie, maar ons maatskaplike werkers het baie moeite vir ons gedoen,” sê Tschudin.

Volgens hom was die inperkingstyd vir talle bejaardes 'n alleentyd.

“Die meeste van ons inwoners bly alleen. Ons is ongeveer 70 inwoners en slegs tien van ons is getroud. Die res woon almal alleen.”
