Housing nightmare haunts Henties

Catastrophe in the making exposed

Anonymous source; Complainant; “The Municipal Council has over the years become so corrupt that they do not even care about the lives of their citizens.”

A member of the public who requested anonymity, has accused the Henties Bay municipality of negligence and corruption which stems from the disastrous low-cost housing project in the town.

According to the source, taxpayer money is being squandered in the implementation of the project.

“The municipal council has over the years become so corrupt that they do not even care about the lives of their citizens. This project is a major catastrophe!”

The source suggested that the allegedly poorly built structures be demolished so that loss of life can be avoided.

“Children play out in the desert, and apart from two external walls that have already collapsed, there is an internal wall that is about to collapse. If such a wall falls on a child, they are dead for sure.”

The source claims to have first-hand information regarding money that was paid to the contractor, through which councillors and senior officials are said to benefit from the corrupt deal.

“I have sufficient information to expose the Henties Bay town council and ensure that we get rid of them, but for now you be the hero. Save the residents and decommission this project.”

When approached for comment, the mayor of Henties Bay, Lewies Vermaak, told Erongo 24/7 as the mayor he only deals with the political aspects at the municipality, saying that the CEO would be the right person to speak to about the matter.

The CEO of Henties Bay, Elizabeth Coetzee, could not be reached for a comment as her mobile phone went unanswered after numerous attempts to reach her.
