August proved to be fruitful for artists at the coast, with a number of sizzling hot tracks released this month.

The likes of Gemini (Eldino Majiedt), Yessonia (Sonia Shalukeni) and EES (Eric Sell) made sure that music fans’ anticipation and expectation for new music were met.

Walvis Bay-based rapper, Gemini, released the smooth and sensual hip hop track “Sweet Talk”.

“The song is about saying the right the things to the girl you love,” the rapper said.

Rap – an acronym for rhythm and poetry – and Gemini’s rhythmic flow and punchy delivery of words bear testament to this. He also signals that he is a force to be reckoned with in the Namibian hip hop game, with his word play ability and lyrics staying true to the letter of the song.

Gemini is no one track wonder. He also takes on and delivers the chorus for “Sweet Talk”, which is catchy and easy to sing along to. “Sweet talk, no cheap talk, I’ll make you want it,” he teases.

“Sweet Talk” was produced by 2018 Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) nominee Salvador Mouers whose production prowess can be heard and experienced in the song. It is evident that Salvador is a genius when it comes to mixing and mastering tracks. Production is seamless and clean, and its overall quality is near perfect.

Fellow Walvis Bay rapper, Brumorr “Brumorr YB” Maasdorp adds value to the song in a well delivered second verse.

Yessonia

Yessonia teamed up with the “Namibian king of dancehall” Don Kamati to release her latest offering “Bonnie n Clyde”.
The two artists have set a high benchmark for dancehall and calypso music in the county with this jam session and ooze style from the first minute until its very end. It is indeed a song to dance to.

Yessonia’s beautiful voice resonates throughout and Don Kamati, who is Namibia’s very own Burna Boy, adds additional value with his style.

The song is a love story and tells about being in love with someone through thick and thin.

EES

EES has also being making waves, having released the video for his smash hit “Magic”. The video features various local musicians and celebrities, like Otweya, Ixa, Wambüseun, Shishani, Ras Sheehama, Lize Ehlers, Dillish Mathews and many more.

The video also contains feel good clips which were sent to the artist, allowing the versatile EES to stay true to himself and his unique kwaito style.

It is truly an inspiring song amid the melancholic times we find ourselves in. The song’s positive message brings hope to the tourism industry, which has suffered immensely due to lockdown measures and provides a light at the end of the tunnel for everyone.
