Hervestigingsproses uit die blokke

Die mees kwesbare ­inwoners sal prioriteit geniet wanneer die her­vestigingsproses begin, volgens Walvisbaai se burgemeester.

Die burgemeester van Walvisbaai, mnr. Immanuel Wilfred, sê die proses om sekere areas op Walvisbaai minder digbewoon te maak om lewensomstandighede van mense te verbeter, is uitdagend.

Daarmee saam het Wilfred die versekering gegee die mees kwesbare lede van die gemeenskap sal prioriteit geniet wanneer die proses in alle erns begin.

Die kabinet het 'n opdrag gegee om inwoners uit digbevolkte gebiede te hervestig ten einde die verspreiding van Covid-19 te bekamp. Raadslede het 'n geskatte N$10 miljoen vir die diens en voorsiening van grond op die hawedorp goedgekeur.

Volgens Wilfred is die beskikbaarheid van masjinerie en toerusting een van die grootste hindernisse vir die beoogde proses.

“Die proses vind dus tans teen 'n stadiger pas plaas as wat aanvanklik gehoop is.”

Hy het aangekondig daar sal binne die volgende paar weke 'n tender uitgereik word vir die beoogde werke om die betrokke grond en die oprigting van tydelike wooneenhede te verskaf.

“Werk het reeds begin met die gelykmaking van die grond. Private ondernemings en individue het ook navrae gedoen hoe hulle hul dienste gratis kan aanbied. Hoewel ons dankbaar is vir al die hulp wat tot dusver ontvang is, benodig ons nog steeds baie hande om die Covid-19-storm te oorwin.”

Die munisipale woordvoerder, mnr. Kevin Adams, het gesê die terrein langs Uitbreiding 7 in die omgewing van Fire Fishstraat in Narraville word voorberei vir twee Shack Dwellers Federasie-groepe.

“Daar is 68 erwe in die betrokke omgewing in Narraville en verder af in die straat word grondwerk vir ongeveer 200 erwe gedoen. Die voorbereiding van grond vir behuising by albei terreine is lankal aan die gang. Die munisipaliteit het gehelp om sand by heinings te verwyder, terwyl die twee groepe ook uit hul eie sak tot opvulwerk bygedra het. Element Consulting Engineers is ook aangestel vir die ontwerp, kontrakadministrasie en voorsiening van dienste-infrastruktuur vir Uitbreiding 8 in Narraville.”

Die burgemeester het inwoners ook gewaarsku teen gewetenlose individue wat onder valse voorwendsels hulp soek.

“Daar is sekere mense wat enigiets sal doen om die huidige situasie vir hul eie persoonlike en politieke gewin uit te buit. As u twyfel oor sulke persone, moet u inligting by die betrokke owerhede bevestig. Die munisipaliteit kan verantwoor­ding doen vir alles wat namens ­be­hoeftige inwoners ontvang en versprei is. ”
