Hengelbonanza gaan voort

Die ikoniese Hengelbonanza sal beslis vanjaar plaasvind.

Nie eens Covid-19 kon daarin slaag om 'n stokkie voor die jaarlikse Hengelbonanza op Hentiesbaai te steek nie, wat sedert sy ontstaan in 1987 sinoniem is met die viering van die feesseisoen op die kusdorp.

Vanjaar vind dié geleentheid ouder­gewoonte op 26 Desember plaas en hengelaars kan soos gewoonlik weer uitsien na groot pret en pryse.

Michiel Hattingh het verlede jaar N$30 000 in sy sak gesteek toe sy kabeljou van 15,02 kg as die grootste vis aangewys is. Vanjaar se grootste vis sal N$20 000 in die sak van sy vanger besorg.

Een van die organiseerders, Morné Horn, sê die pryse vir ander kategorieë sal vanjaar ook kleiner wees.

“Vir die ander afdelings, soos die grootste roofvis, sal die prysgeld ­iewers tussen N$3 000 en N$5 000 wees.”

Die immergewilde gelukstrekking maak ook soos gewoonlik weer deel uit van vanjaar se kompetisie.

Om gesondheidsmaatreëls te handhaaf, sal 'n inweegtent vanjaar voor die Hentiesbaai-gholfklub opgerig word. Ná die sluiting van die skale sal die prysuitdeling slegs vir wenners en hul families gehou word om die aantal mense te beperk.

Horn is egter optimisties dat die bonanza weer vanjaar sy gewone 1 000 inskrywings sal lok.

“Ek weet regtig nie hoe ons inskrywings gaan lyk nie, maar ons mikpunt is die ongeveer 1 000 inskrywings wat ons elke jaar kry,” sê hy.

Verlede jaar het 933 hoopvolle hengelaars ingeskryf.

“Daar is nie regtig 'n kwessie met die aantal inskrywings nie, want die hengelaars kom weeg mos hul vis in en gaan dan weer terug na die waters toe. Daar is dus 'n vloei van mense en geen opeenhoping nie,” sê hy.

Kaartjies vir vanjaar se Hengel­bonanza kos N$150 en sluit 'n geluks­trekkingkaartjie in.
