Two men died in a motor vehicle accident on the notorious B2 road between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund on Saturday night.
Deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu confirmed the incident.
“It is alleged that Michael Shikongo Nambombola was travelling in his Toyota Corolla from Swakopmund towards Walvis Bay when he allegedly overtook a vehicle and collided head on with an oncoming vehicle. This happened in the vicinity of Langstrand at about 20:37. The other vehicle, a Toyota Legend (second vehicle), had two occupants including the driver Angelo Goliath.”
The impact of the crash caused the Toyota Legend to overturn and it landed on its roof.
“The driver was thrown out of the vehicle and landed on the windscreen of another vehicle which was driving behind the Toyota Legend. Both drivers (Manbombola and Goliath) died on the spot. The passenger in the Toyota Legend, an adult male, escaped without injury.”
The driver of a Polo (third vehicle) and his passenger also escaped without any injuries.
“The next of kin of the deceased persons have been informed. The bodies were taken to Walvis Bay Police mortuary for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Investigations into the matter continue and a case of culpable homicide and reckless or negligent driving was opened.”
