Grumpy’s fishing report
01 September 2020 | Fishing
The past weekend saw hundreds of anglers heading out of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund.
The bait sales went through the roof. Unfortunately the wind was gale force and made the temperature outside pretty cold.
Galjoen were caught at Longbeach and I received some reports of good catches at Mile 68.
The kob were on the bite at Sarah se gat and Tolla, right up to Mile 68 and also at areas around Mile 72.
Maketus and Canopy gave some big steenbras with ones weighing up to 9kg being caught too.
Dries Van Zyl and his wife to be (Taryn) also got into the action in the area of Canopy.
Taryn tested her new rod and reel. She even loaded her own bait and made the cast herself. It wasn’t long before she was rewarded with a big 4kg kob. The smile said it all.
The day turned out great for them since they landed a few nice sized kob while Dries even managing to catch a bronzy.
The skiboats are still active with young kob being caught in the vicinity of Vierkantklip. The blacktail were also biting readily on white mussel.
The conditions look relatively calm for the week so I am holding thumbs that the fish will continue to bite.
Areas like Mile 32 also worked well with a few reports of some pan sized kob being caught in those areas.
Wlotzkas is also producing some fish.
Mile 68 has lots of redbait that is washing ashore. This is really good bait for galjoen so be on the lookout for them on the edge of the water.
The bigger galjoen especially love redbait as part of their diet. Try targeting galjoen in areas that has a lot of white water and a lot of waves.
Galjoen like the rough stuff. They are also very fond of rocky areas.
Until next edition. Tight lines!
