Grumpy’s fishing report

19 October 2021 | Fishing

The fishing was slow with lots of wind an aspect that really punished the anglers this past weekend.

A cold front hit our country and with the wind and the swell, it became really tricky for the ski boats too as they couldn’t get out in the choppy conditions.

The south wester blowing at 50km/h did not make it easy to get good distance into the sea when casting.

Another factor leading to the poor catches was the cold weather which persisted. Only a few anglers tried their luck for longer than an hour or two.

Louis Fenaux, a legendary angler in Henties Bay who is also a fishing guide, agreed that fishing conditions were super tough this past week.

We did however received reports of younger galjoen being caught at the Pump Station close to Mile 4 as well as at Mile 11 and Mile 13.

The preferred bait used, was white mussel with the odd kob also taking the bait.

The fishing should improve quite quickly and expectations are quite high that the big kob will arrive in droves.

An awesome website to use to the upcoming weather conditions is www.cellstop.com.na .

Keep an eye out for calmer water which usually makes for easier fishing conditions.

Those with internet problems are more than welcome to visit our shop for a tide table booklet.

I am also sure that when the conditions are flat again, the snoek will also be around and I am super excited to go out and catch a few of these delicacies for myself.

Some good news. Fishing conditions as of Wednesday look super good.

Head to Canopy and you should be able to land a couple of fish, especially some big steenbras and kob.

Mile 72 right up to Sarah se gat are also areas to target with some good fish always landed in these areas.

Tight lines!
