Grumpy’s fishing report

The condition of the water eventually did come down quite a bit.

After a few days of some rough conditions, reports came in that conditions have turned for the better. Longbeach again delivered the much sought after galjoen. Even a few steenbras were landed in the 38 cm to 44 cm class. A fried steenbras is simply delicious. Give it a try if you succeed in catching one.

Sharks were also brought ashore. Sean Oberg and his friend Donavin Bezuidenhout caught quite a number of 80 to 110 kg beasts on bonitos and yellowtail at Mile 17’s black rocks.

I still think the catch of the week goes to young Luigi Strappazon from Swakopmund. He was fishing with his dad Stefano, and man oh man, did the little man put on a fight when the bite came. His dad cast his bait out and soon a tug of war ensued with Luigi ending victorious. The blacktail with its nice blue fins, measured an amazing 40 cm up to the v of the tail. The fish was measured and then gently put back to fight another day. Well done Luigi. It’s not every day one catches a monster blacktail of that size.

The skiboats were also out and about. Annalize Maartens went fishing on “Arvid” and showed the men how it’s done. She landed a beautiful and hard fighting yellowtail. These species are quite difficult to catch but with assistance from Henri Snyman and skipper Nico who calmed her nerves, she played the fish like a pro.

Tight lines until next week’s report.
