Geldelike hupstoot vir Mej. Namibië

Die land se nasionale skoonheidskoningin is besig om haarself vir die Mej. Heelal-kompetisie voor te berei.

Mej. Namibië 2021, Chelsi Shikongo (23), het ’n skenking van N$25 000 van die QKR Namibia Navachab-goudmyn ontvang.

Die geld is deur die maatskappy bewillig om haar te help met voorbereiding vir die Mej. Heelal-kompetisie.

Shikongo, wat op Walvisbaai grootgeword het, het haar dank aan die myn uitgespreek vir die skenking wat Vrydag by die kantoor van die Erongo-streekgoewerneur aan haar oorhandig is.

“Ek weet nie regtig hoe ek die goewerneur (Neville Andre) en Navachab kan bedank vir hierdie skenking nie. Dit sal my baie help om op die wêreldverhoog te kan meeding en om bewustheid te skep oor hoe mooi Namibië en sy mense is,” het sy gesê.

Sy het bygevoeg sy voel geëerd om Namibië by dié internasionale skouspel te verteenwoordig.

“Ek is baie trots daarop dat ek nie net vir Walvisbaai nie, maar ook die Erongostreek en die hele Namibië kan verteenwoordig. Ek kan nie wag om aan alle kinders te bewys as jy in iets glo, jy dit kan bereik nie,” het sy gesê.

QKR Namibia Navachab se besturende direkteur, George Botshiwe, het die hoop uitgespreek dat die skenking sal help met die uitvoering van Chelsi se pligte.

“Ons verstaan ten volle daar is uitgawes betrokke en as ’n korporatiewe maatskappy in die Erongostreek wil ons vir Chelsi ondersteun,” het Botshiwe gesê.

Die Mej. Heelal-kompetisie word vanjaar vir die 70ste keer aangebied, waar Andrea Meza van Mexiko haar kroon aan die nuwe titelhouer sal oorhandig.

In Januarie is berig die Mej. Heelal-organisasie het gesprekke gevoer om die 2021-uitgawe van die kompetisie in Costa Rica te hou. Die onderhandelinge is later deur Gustavo Segura, Costa Rica se toerismeminister, bevestig.

In Mei 2021, tydens ’n onderhoud met People en Español, het Meza gesê die kompetisie sou aan die einde van die jaar plaasvind.

Die Namibiër Michelle McLean is in 1992 as Mej. Heelal gekroon.

Die bokser Jonas Junius het in sy afwesigheid ook N$25 000 van die myn ontvang om hom te help met sy voorbereiding vir die Olimpiese Spele in Tokio.
