Geen genade vir dronkbestuur

Bestuurders wat hul skuldig maak aan dronkbestuur, verkeersreëls verontagsaam of onpadwaardige voertuie gebruik, sal die gevolge dra.

Dertien mense is vir dronkbestuur in die Erongostreek aangekeer.

Volgens ao. Ileni Shapumba, bevelvoerder vir gemeenskapspolisiëring, is agt voorvalle op Walvisbaai aangeteken, vier op Swakopmund en een op Karibib.

In een voorval het die bestuurder van ’n motor wat by die Swakopmund-padblokkade op die B2 aangekeer is, glo remvloeistof gedrink om ’n toets vir alkohol in sy bloedstroom te probeer fnuik.

“Hy het positief getoets en is toe beveel om sy motor te verlaat sodat ’n verdere toets gedoen kon word,” het Shapumba gesê. “Toe hy begin siek voel, het hy die polisiebeamptes vertel wat hy gedoen het en hy is na ’n hosptaal op Swakopmund geneem. Sy toestand is bestendig,” het Shapumba gesê.

Saterdag het ‘n bestuurder wat vermoedelik onder die invloed was, beheer oor sy voertuig verloor en op die Hentiesbaaipad in ’n ander voertuig vasgejaag. Die bestuurder het ernstige beserings opgedoen. Hy is eers na ’n hospitaal op Swakopmund geneem en is Sondag na Windhoek oorgeplaas. Die ses mense in die ander voertuig het geringe beserings opgedoen.

Verskeie bestuurders wat nie in besit was van hul rybewyse nie en ander verkeersreëls verontagsaam het, is ook in hegtenis geneem en aangekla.

Borgtog vir iemand wat vir dronkbestuur toegesluit word, beloop N$8 000 vir Namibiërs en N$9 000 vir buitelanders.

“Slegs een persoon het op Swakopmond borgtog betaal en ses van die agt mense wat op Walvisbaai in hegtenis geneem is. Almal wat vir dronkbestuur aangekeer is, woon aan die kus,” het Shapumba gesê.

Hy het bygevoeg daar is ’n toename in voertuie met vervalde lisensieskywe.

“Altesaam 22 persone is vir dié oortreding op Swakopmund aangekla en een op Karibib. Dit is ’n ernstige oortreding en diegene wat hulle daaraan skuldig maak, kan agter tralies beland totdat hulle voor ’n hof verskyn.”

Volgens Shapumba was daar dusver geen ernstige motorongelukke in die streek nie.

“Dit is egter noodsaaklik dat bestuurders by die verkeersreëls hou. Elkeen moet verantwoordelik optree sodat ons hierdie probleem saam die hoof kan bied.”

Shapumba het vakansiegangers aangeraai om lank voor die tyd hul reis te beplan en te verseker dat voertuie padwaardig is.

“Bestuurders van voertuie met verslete bande gaan beboet word. Daar word ook van hulle verwag om die verslete band of bande te vervang voordat hulle verder kan reis.”

Sakmesse wat in die besit van mense op straat en by drinkplekke gevind is, is deur lede van die polisie in Kuisebmond gekonfiskeer. “Ons vermoed die messe word gebruik om misdade, veral rooftogte en aanrandings, te pleeg,” het Shapumba gesê.

Die polisieoptrede is deel van die voortgesette Operasie Kalahari-woestyn.
