Sparta Rugby Club will be hosting a rugby fun day this Saturday.

Proceedings kick off at 10:00 with a junior rugby clinic and aspiring young rugby players are invited to join this training session.

The game of the day involves a mixed team consisting of Swakopmund Vikings and the Dolphin players against the Walvis Bay-based Kudu Rugby Club.

Hosts Sparta take on Kudu Rugby Club at 12:10.

For youngsters and the fairer sex there will be a ball kicking competition during the lunch break at 13:10. Prizes will be announced on the day.

Thereafter at 14:00, Kudus will be playing against the Coastal Barbarians. This match will conclude the rugby fun on the day.
The games will be 30 minutes for each side and will be played at the Sparta Rugby Field.

Entrance is N$10 per person and N$20 per vehicle. There will also be a cash bar and food available in the club house.

Chris Olivier, the Sparta Rugby Club team manager, says the fun day is being held to keep players fit and ready for the upcoming rugby season.

“So far we’ve competed in a sevens tournament in Windhoek, the coastal 10-a-side tournament hosted by Vikings and recently in the tournament hosted by Kudus Rugby Club. The team really played their hearts out each time. There are some areas we’d like to improve on such as the ball handling aspect.”

Sparta will be playing in the first division league this year.

“Last year we reached the semi-finals in the league but this year we want to bring home the division cup,” said Olivier.

He urged the entire coastal community to join Sparta for a fun-filled day.

“And bring the entire family along!”
