Four rapes reported on first day of 2022

A minor (16) was raped at Mariental on New Year’s Day while she and a friend were walking home after drawing money for her sister.

They stopped behind a business park to relieve themselves when an unknown suspect grabbed her by her hair and dragged her to a tree under which she was raped at knifepoint. The friend ran away. The suspect also took the girl’s phone and N$200 before walking away. She reported the incident to her uncle. The suspect is still on the loose.

A man (45) was arrested at Groot Aub Settlement on New Year’s Day for having allegedly raped a 32-year-old female.

Two male suspects (38 and 33) were arrested at Otjomuise and Katutura respectively on 1 January after they allegedly raped a woman in two separate and unrelated incidents.

In a case registered under the Domestic Violence Act, a husband (45) threatened his wife (43) that he would burn down their house and kill their two children on Old Year’s Eve at Stampriet.

A man (28) is facing a charge of kidnapping a woman (38) on New Year’s Day. It is alleged she was hiking when two men forced her into the boot of their vehicle. While there, she texted her family, who in turn informed the police. The police intercepted the vehicle near the Ondangwa roadblock. The second suspect fled.
