Knowledge Ipinge; Activist; “Our eyes and ears are glued on this…”
The Walvis Bay municipality issued a statement in response to claims of a special audit report on various housing issues circulating on social media.
According to the municipal public relations division, the report has not been presented to council by PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) at this stage.
“As a public institution, council takes its responsibility of being transparent seriously and therefore, when the report is made available, possibly during the course of next week, council will share its findings with the media and the public,” the municipality said.
This reaction follows after Affirmative Repositioning movement activist and former regional councillor for the Walvis Bay urban constituency, Knowledge Ipinge said that the much-anticipated forensic report was available and due to be tabled to full council last Friday.
“Some council members made multiple inquiries since Friday to the chairperson of the council who is the mayor to obtain it, but the document remains secretive for some weird reason, which the investigative unit is closely monitoring,” Ipinge wrote.
According to him it is suspected that “some municipal administrators and politically connected elites” are trying to cover their tracks due to specific details contained in the report.
Ipinge also hinted that a special meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday (15 July) at 10:00 to discuss the future of suspended CEO, Muronga Haingura.
He said that no documentation has been availed to council members to meet the 72 hours rule.
“Our eyes and ears are glued on this. We wish to make it very clear to all Walvis Bay municipality officials that our petition submitted during our ‘protest against corruption and poor service delivery’ within the Walvis Bay Municipality, remains valid.”
The activist warned municipal officials that they (or anyone) will be held accountable if they attempt to breach the resolutions taken injunction with the residents.
