Food Fest oortref verwagtinge

Hoewel die Nedbank Swakop Food Fest vanjaar die vinger op die pols moes hou om nie Covid-19 maatreëls te verontagsaam nie, was die geleentheid weer ’n reusesukses.

“Dit was ongelooflik, veral as jy alles rondom die pandemie in ag neem. Nou is ’n goeie tyd om te ontspan en om uit te sien na ’n beter 2021,” het die organiseerder, Dalene Stephanus, gesê en bygevoeg dat sy in die toekoms graag ’n wyer verskeidenheid van stalletjies sou wou hê, “maar ek dink nie daar is groot veranderinge nodig nie.”

Besoekers en uitstallers stem saam.

“Ek dink die organiseerders doen uitstekende werk,” het Andries van Schalkwyk, ’n mede-eienaar van Copper & Coal Distillery, gesê.

Hy meen verkope by die fees het sy verwagtinge oortref. “Ek dink dit was beter as verwag. Ek dink nie die Covid-19-maatreëls het ons verkope te erg geknou nie.”

Dolly Bull van Dolly’s Pizza beskou die geleentheid as ’n lewenslyn na die jaar wat die restaurantbedryf agter die rug het.

“Dit help ons baie om ’n inkomste te verdien om op te maak vir die maande wat ons nie kon werk nie. Die publisiteit is ook vir ons baie belangrik,” sê sy.

Volgens Stephanus is daar reeds planne vir volgende jaar se Nedbank Swakop Food Fest.

“Verlede jaar het die fees gemik op kosse van die uithoeke van die wêreld. Vanjaar het die organiseerders die fees huis toe gebring met die klem op plaaslike besighede. Volgende jaar is die fokuspunt fynproewerskos.”
Stephanus sê daar gaan gepoog word om soveel restaurante moontlik aan boord te kry.

Mohamed Benhard en Frederika Isak is geen vreemdelinge by die Nedbank Swakop Food Fest nie. Vanjaar kon hulle egter die fees as gaste geniet. Verlede jaar het die paar by een van die fees se stalletjies gewerk.

“Ek dink die feit dat daar net ’n spesifieke aantal mense toegelaat was op ’n slag maak dit ’n bietjie anders as vorige jare, maar nietemin is die gees nog hier,” het Isak gesê.
