Five new Covid cases in Erongo

Health minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced 54 new Covid-19 cases and 22 recoveries. He said that 1 061 results were received from the laboratories and that of the newly reported cases, 31 are male and 23 are female, with ages ranging from one-year to 75.

The confirmed cases are distributed in Oshakati (18), Windhoek (16), Rehoboth (5), Mariental (1), Walvis Bay (3), Swakopmund (2), Otjiwarongo (3), Okahandja (1), Gobabis (2), Oshikuku (1), Outapi (1) and Tsumeb (1).

The minister said that the Oshakati cases include 12 learners from Oshakati Senior Secondary School and five inmates from Oluno prison.

“The Oshakati Senior Secondary School and the Oluno correctional facility have been the hotbed of Covid-19 transmission in Oshana, contributing significantly to the national tally of positive cases. Today we recorded 18 learners among the total cases from different school across the country.”

The minister also announced 22 recoveries from the Khomas region.

Of the active cases, three are in a serious to critical condition. Two patients are seriously ill in Erongo and in the Khomas region, respectively. Only one patient is critically ill in the Khomas region.
