Fishing industry strategizes over Covid-19

The meeting was held to obtain information about the readiness of these stakeholders with regards to Covid-19.
“All participants expressed satisfaction on being consulted and having an open dialogue. The meeting also agreed on a number of issues,” the governor said.
Participants resolved to establish a committee consisting of trade unions, the horse mackerel and hake associations, and officials from the ministry of health and social services as well as fisheries and marine resources to look at various issues.
These include a review of the memorandum of understanding signed between the operators and unions at the onset of Covid-19, and the introduction of site inspections to ensure workers’ safety.
