Fireball over Namibia

22 April 2020 | Others

On Monday night, many Namibians witnessed a strange phenomenon: A meteor briefly illuminated the heavens at around 21:30 (pictured). Numerous eyewitnesses claim to have observed the glowing object, which moved from north to south at high speed, with reports coming from Oranjemund, Swakopmund, Windhoek and Tsumeb. It was likely a meteor flying through the atmosphere or space debris, however it is not known if it had anything to do with the Lyrid meteor shower which can still be viewed in the early morning hours until Saturday (25 April).
