Die Europese Unie (EU) het hierdie week ’n Europese Filmfees op Swakopmund aangebied. Vertonings het Maandag met The King of the Belgians begin en eindig Sondagaand op ’n spesiale noot met die vertoning van Hairareb, ’n Namibiese film deur Oshoveli Shipah.

Hoewel nie Europees nie, word Hairareb as die juweel in die filmfees se kroon beskou. Hou egter die sakdoeke nader, aangesien dié eg Namibiese liefdesverhaal met tragedie deurboor is.

“Ek dink Hairareb gaan die meeste mense lok, aangesien dit ’n Namibiese film is,” het Jan Kruger van Atlanta Cinema op Swakopmund gesê. Die vertoning begin om 17:00 by Atlanta Cinema Swakopmund draai.

The King of the Belgians is ’n “mockumentary” waarin die Belgiese koning en sy gevolg gestrand raak wanneer die Franssprekende helfte van die land onafhanklikheid verklaar. Hy kan egter nie sommer só huis toe gaan nie omdat daar ’n storm woed. Daarna volg ’n skreeusnaakse reis vir hulle.

Dinsdag is Dome Karukoski se Tom of Finland vertoon. Die film handel oor Touko Valio Laaksonen, beter bekend as ‘Tom of Finland’. Hy was ’n waaghalsige kunstenaar wat, toe dit onwettig was om gay te wees, gay paartjies en die gay filosofie in sy kuns uitgebeeld het. Só het sy bydrae van hom ’n gay-ikoon van die 20ste eeu gemaak.
