Namibië kan moontlik teen middel-Maart sy entstowwe teen Covid-19 verwag.

Dr. Ismael Katjitae het tydens 'n bespreking oor die land se gereedheid vir die uitrol van die entstowwe gesê dit word grootliks toege­skryf aan die “baie hoë kompetisie” wêreldwyd om die entstowwe in die hande te kry.

Die minister van gesondheid en maatskaplike dienste, dr. Kalumbi Shangula, het vroeër gesê die ­ent­stowwe sal teen einde Januarie, begin Februarie beskikbaar wees.

Volgens Katjitae werk die nasionale taakspan onder leiding van die adjunk- uitvoerende direkteur in die ministerie, me. Petronella Masabane, “dag en nag asof hul lewens hiervan afhang” om alles gereed te kry vir wanneer die entstowwe ­uiteindelik opdaag.

Hy het beklemtoon dit is elke inwoner se keuse of hy of sy teen Covid-19 geïmmuniseer wil word.
Katjitae het verwys na immuniteit wat deur middel van die entstof verseker word of die natuurlike immuniteit wat 'n persoon opbou wat reeds met Covid-19 gediagnoseer was.

Laasgenoemde kan 90 dae ná hy of sy met die siekte gediagnoseer is, geïmmuniseer word.

“Immuniteit deur middel van 'n entstof beteken die onaktiewe deel van die virus word ingespuit wat 'n sneller vir 'n reaksie van jou liggaam is om beskermingsmaatreëls teen die virus te produseer,” het hy verduidelik.

Volgens hom is die entstowwe wat in Namibië beskikbaar sal wees, dieselfde wat wêreldwyd beskikbaar is en waarmee miljoene mense reeds ingeënt is.

Met verwysing na verskeie nuwe variante wat in onder meer Suid-Afrika en Brittanje ontdek is, het hy gesê die huidige entstowwe sal steeds dat die liggaam die coronavirus herken en 'n reaksie verseker.

Volgens hom is deel van die taakspan vir entstowwe se reaksieplan moontlike matige tot ernstige newe-effekte en hoe om dit te hanteer en te behandel.

Me. Roselina de Wee, openbare gesondheidspesialis vir immunisering vir die Wêreldgesondheids­organisasie (WHO) het gemaan teen samesweringsteorieë en vals nuus oor die entstowwe.

“Hierdie entstof is deur baie, baie streng prosedures van beheer­liggame net soos ander entstowwe, geen ­kortpaaie is gevat nie.

Dit is net soos enige ander entstof teen byvoorbeeld polio of masels,” het sy gesê.

De Wee het ­beklemtoon Namibië het onder­vinding in massa-immuniseringsveldtogte en ­inligting oor die uitrol van die entstowwe sal landswyd openbaar gemaak word die oomblik wanneer die datum bekend is wanneer die entstowwe in Namibië verwag word.

“Spanne en logistieke reëlings sal in plek wees en die uitrol sal in ver­skillende fases gedoen word,” het sy gesê.
