The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare handed over Income Generating Activity (IGA) grants to several entrepreneurs from the Erongo region.

Fourteen women and two men benefited from the initiative, in which they received different equipment like fridges, gas stoves, pots, microwaves, electric drills and more worth N$137 000.

Beneficiary Esther Fleta (53) expressed her thanks towards the ministry for boosting her business through the IGA grant.

“Thank you very much. I am grateful for this as it will help my business tremendously.”

Fleta is a Karibib-based entrepreneur who runs a take away business known as Ehafo Trading. She sells fast food like fat cakes, chips, sausages and more. She has been operating her business for the last 20 years and received a gas stove as well as pots.

Gender equality minister Doreen Sioka said equipment will improve the entrepreneurs’ quality of life.

“It is evident that through this programme, many women and men who received these materials and equipment, improved their living conditions and created employment opportunities for others.”

The minister urged all the recipients to take care of the equipment which they received.
