Elderly person murdered

16 October 2021 | Crime

The police are appealing for help from the public to find the suspects wanted in connection with a murder and a housebreaking with intent to rob and robbery case.

The unit commander for community affairs in the Erongo region, Inspector Ileni Shapumba confirmed that Lupfer Axel an 80-year-old Namibian man was found dead in his house at No 8 in First Avenue in Vineta, Swakopmund on Friday.

"Two friends of the deceased went to his house after several attempts to contact him on his phone and discovered the body in the bedroom at about 18:00."

According to Shapumba the body of the deceased was found on the floor next to his bed.

“His hands and feet were tied up with shoelaces, and a piece of clothing was stuffed into his mouth. The deceased was staying alone. His next of kin are in Germany and have been informed about what happened. During the preliminary investigation, the police observed two footprints in the yard. A window was also broken. It is suspected that the suspects gained entrance to the residence through it,” he said.

A red Chevrolet Spark with registration N 3785 S, a small wall-mounted safe, a Samsung flat screen TV and Samsung camera, were removed from the house.

The vehicle was found abandoned in the DRC settlement on Saturday

“The suspects are unknown at this stage. The deceased’s body has been transported to Swakopmund State Hospital for further handling,” said Shapumba.

He called on anyone who witnessed the incident or have information regarding the possible suspects and their whereabouts to urgently contact Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu at Cell 0812464757, Detective Chief Inspector Mwatongwe (081 246 1121), Detective Inspector Tjihavero (081 413 7105) or the nearest police station.
