Elderly man plummets to death
Crime report
George Haradoeb (72) died after he fell from a ladder while painting a building in John-Ya Otto Street in the industrial area of Swakopmund on Monday. Deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu confirmed the incident, saying that indications are that the deceased was on top of a ladder hooked onto scaffolding.
“During the process, a strong gust of wind apparently shifted the scaffolding. The deceased lost his footing and fell. His head hit the interlocks where he landed.”
Haradoeb was declared dead at the scene by Code Red medical staff.
Iikuyu said that the police suspect no foul play.
The body was taken to Swakopmund state hospital mortuary for further handling.
In other news, a 24-year-old woman was allegedly raped on Friday in Kuisebmond.
“The victim was drinking alcohol with two suspects. She became intoxicated and both suspects performed sexual acts with her without her consent,” Iikuyu said.
Although a 32-year-old man was arrested, the second suspect, who is known, is still at large.
“The search is on to trace and arrest him. The arrested suspect will appear at Walvis Bay magistrate’s court.”
