Dorp van die jaar jol

Swakopmund is vroeër vanjaar as Kwêla se Dorp van die Jaar aangewys en saam met die gesogte titel kom ‘n opskop soos min.

Die Swakopmund Kwêla Dorp van die Jaar Kia Makietie het Vrydagoggend afgeskop met die amptelike opening waargeneem deur me. Pauline Nashilundo, die burgemeester van Swakopmund.

Die fees was volgens haar die grootste nog in die dorp se geskiedenis.

Daar was vermaak, lekkernye en aktiwiteite om van te kus en keur.

Volgens mnr. Fred Herridge en sy vrou Susan van SMF Soft Serve het kragonderbrekings tydens die eerste dag van die opskop hul besigheid egter effens laat skipbreuk ly. Die tweede dag het nietemin vlot verloop en hul het goeie winste getoon.

Die oorsaak was volgens mnr. Gerhard van der Merwe, ‘n lid van die organiseringskomitee, ‘n tegniese haakplek wat in die vervolg nie oorgesien sal word nie.

“Hierdie was ‘n leerskool. Dit is die eerste fees van sy sort vir die dorp so ons het byna geen riglyne gehad nie. Dit is definitief iets waarvan ons nou bewus is en verstaan.”

Die Shotokan karate-groep was eerste op die vermaaklikheidsprogram met kata- en vegdemonstrasies.

Fatman, Leah en Jezelle het almal weer ‘n smakie van die Namibiese kus gegee ná hulle op 23 en 24 Augustus ook by die Hentiesfees opgetree het.

Juanita du Plessis en die Campbells het die skare Vrydagaand behoorlik aan die dans gehad. Emo Adams en sy groep het die skare laat smag vir nog voor die vuurdansers hul beurt gekry het.

‘n Paar harte het op ‘n drafstap galop toe ‘n danser beheer oor die vlamme van haar vuurwaaier verloor het.

Nog ‘n absolute feesgunsteling was die teenwoordigheid van akteurs van die gewilde Suid-Afrikaanse sepies. Besoekers het dik stukke saam met Gantane Kusch (dr. Sia Thuli van Suidooster), Dean Smith (Wade in Suidooster), Je-Ani Swiegelaar (Naomi Ferreira in Binnelanders), Clint Brink (dr. Steve Abrahams, Binnelanders), David Louw (Simon van Getroud met rugby) en Mandie du Plooy-Baard (Lienkie du Randt in Getroud Met Rugby) gekuier. Die akteurs was baie opgewonde om Namibiese aanhangers te ontmoet.

Sean-Marco Vorster en Marguerite van Eeden het gesig gewys om van hul film, Vergeet My Nie, te vertel. Dié twee is vanaf 14 Februarie 2020, Valentynsdag, as Hugo en Mardaleen te sien in die Namibiese liefdesverhaal.

Volgens Van der Merwe is hierdie blootstelling aan musikante en akteurs belangrik vir jong, plaaslike talent.

“Die kinders sien die rolmodelle in lewende lywe en dit laat hulle toe om te droom, om te sê hulle wil ook eendag dieselfde bereik. Hierdie Makietie was ‘n droom vir ons en nou kan ons ander help om te droom . . . Dit is regtig ‘n voorreg en maak al die lang ure se beplanning en stres die moeite werd,” het hy gesê.
