Debmarine se vlagskip vorder goed

Die konstruksie van 'n splinternuwe diamantskip vir Namibië behoort na verwagtinge voor die einde van die jaar afgehandel te wees

Debmarine Namibia het onlangs aangekondig dat konstruksie goed vorder aan die AMV3-diamantskip wat by die Damen-skeepswerf in Mangalia, Roemenië, gebou word.

Die verwagting is dat die skip in Oktober vanjaar voltooi sal wees.

Dié vordering kom ten spyte van die wêreldwye Covid-19-pandemie, aangesien 'n spesiale reaksieplan geïmplementeer is om veiligheid en gesondheid te verseker, volgens me. Anna Ikela, senior woordvoerder van Debmarine.

Volgens haar hou die projek nog koers om betyds en binne die begro­ting voltooi te word.

Spesiale toerusting vir die skip word in Kaapstad se hawe gebou en sluit in die diamantherwinnings­toestel, bekend as die Crawler, en die verwer­kingsaanleg wat op die skip geïnstalleer sal word.



Plaaslik

Die staal vir die Crawler is gelewer en die montering verloop goed. Die plaaslike diensverskaffer, Belmet Namibia, het 'n gedeelte van die staalwerke op Walvisbaai vervaardig en dit reeds afgelewer, het Ikela gesê.

Vir die skip se eerste vaart vroeg in 2021, sal dit eers na Kaapstad vaar om sendingstoerusting te installeer voordat dit koers na Namibië sal kry.

Debmarine verwag die skip sal meer as 161 nuwe werksgeleenthede skep en jaarliks 500 000 karaat bykomend tot die vennootskap tussen De Beers en die regering se diamantproduksie ­bydrae – 'n toename van ongeveer 35% op die huidige produksie, sê Ikela.

Hierdie sal Debmarine se sewende skip wees en sluit die produksieskepe MV Mafuta, MV Grand Banks, MV Debmar Pacific, MV Debmar Atlantic en die MV !Gariep in.

Debmarine besit ook die MV SS Nujoma, een van die wêreld se grootste vaartuie, wat steekproewe van diamantneerslae en eksplorasie op die bodem van die see kan doen.
