The Erongo branch of the SWAPO Party Youth League (SPYL) donated food parcels worth N$15 000 to the office of the governor.
Each parcel consists of 10kg maize meal, 2.5kg baking flour, 2kg sugar, two packets of soup, 750ml cooking oil, 500g salt, one pack of yeast and 5kg horse mackerel.
The parcels will be handed out to less fortunate community members of the Omihana and Okombahe settlements in the Duares constituency.
SPYL Erongo branch secretary Ndinelao Simson said the donation which is intended for 60 homesteads, was done to meet government half way. “We would like to assist government during this difficult time and because community members of Omihana and Okombahe are struggling,” she said.
Erongo governor Neville Andre commended the SPYL Erongo branch for putting aside their political affiliation to help those negatively affected by Covid-19. “This is a wonderful gesture. [Just as] young people are an important part of our society, we are supposed to look after our elders, just like the elders look after us. These rations will not only go to the youth, but to members of all age groups from those areas.”
The governor urged other young people to do the same in a bid to curb and lessen the impact of Covid-19, which is affecting everyone in society.
“Thank you for this donation. It will surely go to those who need it most in the Duares constituency,” Andre said.
