Covid recoveries surpass new cases

He said that 894 results had been received and that of the new cases, 37 are male and 16 are female, with ages ranging from 7-years-old to 68.
The confirmed cases are distributed in Windhoek (40), Rehoboth (3), Mariental (2), Otjiwarongo (3), Okahandja (1), Swakopmund (1), Walvis Bay (1), Katima Mulilo (1) and Rundu (1).
According to Shangula, of the forty cases reported in Windhoek, 23 are from correctional facilities.
“We advise that the congestion in correctional facilities receive due attention from management.”
He reiterated that social distancing, the wearing of masks, hand washing and sanitizing are important tools in preventing the transmission of the disease, and urged Namibians to practise these measures.
“The magic number for public gatherings remains at 50. Let us remember that the Public and Environmental Health Act which is currently in force, prescribes stiff penalties for non-compliance.”
Shangula also announced 96 recoveries from Kavango East (88), Kavango West (4), Ohangwena (2) and //Kharas (2).
Of the active cases, five are in a serious to critical condition. In the Erongo region, two patients are in a critical condition, while in the Khomas region, one patient is seriously ill and two are in a critical condition.
The minister also announced a Covid-19 death recorded in Windhoek.
“A male (58) who is known to suffer from comorbidities presented to a health care facility on 23 September 2020 with symptoms consistent with Covid-19. He was admitted and swabbed on the same day. The results returned positive. His condition deteriorated and he passed away on 9 October 2020.”
