The minister of health Kalumbi Shangula announced 181 new Covid-19 cases, 131 recoveries and two deaths.

He said that 1 914 results were received from the laboratories, and that of the new cases, 100 are female and 81 are male with the youngest aged 1-year and the oldest 80-years.

The cases are distributed as follows: Windhoek (60), Keetmanshoop (27), Karasburg (6), Lüderitz (3), Walvis Bay (16), Swakopmund (11), Usakos (4), Mariental (11), Rehoboth (7), Okahandja (7), Otjiwarongo (6), Grootfontein (2), Oshakati (4), Eenhana (4), Oshikuku (3), Tsumeb (1), Omuthiya (1), Gobabis (2), Khorixas (2), Rundu (2) and Katima Mulilo (2).

Shangula said that 20 271 laboratory tests, with an average of 1 448 tests daily, were conducted since the reintroduction of the Stage 3 measurers under the State of Emergency countrywide on 29 August 2020.

“We recorded 2 531(12%) confirmed cases with an average of 181 during this period from 29 August 2020. In comparison with two weeks before the reintroduction of Stage 3 measures, we conducted 16 753 laboratory tests, with an average of 1 197 tests per day, and detected 3 179 (19%) confirmed cases with an average of 227 cases daily.”

The minister said that testing capacity has increased by 21% while the positive rate dropped by 7% from 19% to 12% during the same period.

“We observed a significant reduction in the number of confirmed cases (20%) in the last two weeks compared to the two weeks preceding the reintroduction of Stage 3 measures.”

Shangula said a reduction of 851 cases has been recorded in s Khomas, Erongo, Oshana, Oshikoto, Omusati, Omaheke and Zambezi regions.

“However, the other half - //Kharas, Hardap, Otjozondjupa, Kavango East & West, Ohangwena and Kunene recorded an increase of 203 confirmed cases.”

Recoveries
The minister announced 131 recoveries recorded in the Khomas (109), //Kharas (14), Omusati (3), Hardap (3) and Oshana (2) regions

Of the current active cases, 20 are in serious to critical conditions. Two are seriously ill and four are critical in the Erongo region, while in the Khomas region, five are seriously ill and nine are in critical condition.

The two deaths announced involve patients from Windhoek and Eenhana. The deceased from Windhoek is a man (58) who died in a health facility on 9 September. He had known comorbidities. The deceased in Eenhana is a female (36) who had no known comorbidities. She died in a health facility on 7 September.
