Minister of health; Dr Kalumbi Shangula; “The youngest case recorded thus far was one day old…’

The minister of health and social services Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced 241 positive Covid-19 cases, 128 recoveries and another Covid-19 related death.

The minister said that 1 388 results were received, of which the youngest patient is one month old and the oldest 81.

The positive cases are distributed as follows: Windhoek (170), Walvis Bay (11), Swakopmund (3), Okahandja (8), Grootfontein (2), Otjiwarongo (1), Okakarara (1), Rehoboth (7), Mariental (6), Eenhana (7), Engela (4), Rundu (9), Keetmanshoop (4), Khorixas (3), Katima Mulilo (2), Outapi (1), Oshakati (1) and Tsumeb (1).

The minister said that since the outbreak of Covid-19 in Namibia, cases have been recorded across all age groups and genders.

“The highest number of cases are recorded in the 30 - 49 year age group (4 088 – 49%), followed by the 10 -29 age group (2 603 – 31%). The age group above 50 years recorded 1 257 (15%) and the least number of cases is recorded among the under-10-year age group, with 348 (5%) cases. The youngest case recorded thus far was one day old and the oldest 95.”

Shangula also announced 128 recoveries: 112 from the Khomas region and 16 from Ohangwena, as well as another Covid-19 related death.

"A man (51) from Outapi who had known comorbidities was swabbed while in the Omusati region. He consulted his general practitioner in Ondangwa and was admitted at Onandjokwe hospital. His result returned positive and he passed away on 3 September 2020. “This is classified as a Covid-19 death and we are reporting this case as an Omusati Covid-19 death, since he was recorded as an Omusati case upon diagnosis,” the minister explained.
