Construction worker falls to his death

A general worker (31) fell from a crane and sustained serious head injuries which led to his death on Saturday morning in Karibib.

Deputy commissioner Erastus Ikuyu, confirmed the incident.

Iikuyu said that the deceased, identified as Shiweda Walter, who worked for the Nghede Construction CC was on duty with his colleague at Namagra Construction Site in Karibib.

“They went up to the roof in the cage attached to a crane of a Catapillar machine inside the factory to clean the rails. Their safety belts were fastened to the cage.”

It is alleged that Walter then got out of the cage to clean the rails.

“While on the outside of the cage, he slipped and lost his balance. This caused the basket to detach from the crane and it plumeth to the ground with his coleaque inside it. The deceased also fell to the ground and sustained serious head injuries as he was suspectedly not wearing a safety helmet.”

His colleague was unharmed.

“Walter was taken by state ambulance to Karibib state clinic from where he was further taken to Usakos state hospital for treatment but unfortunately he passed away at around 16:15. His next of kin were informed.”
