Cee-Jay van Wyk; Player of the tournament; “I am very thankful for being chosen.”
City FC defeated Telecom 2-0 in the final, winning the 064 All Day West Coast 5-a-side indoor soccer tournament that took place at The Dome on Saturday.
Reginald Willemse scored a brace in the second half of a tightly contested final to ensure that City FC pocketed the spoils. The champions took home N$2 500 while the runners-up had to settle for N$1 000.
George “Johra” Muvuma, representing the sponsors, said the tournament that attracted around 20 teams, was a phenomenal success.
“The event was awesome; the attendance was good and the people really loved it. We plan to make it an annual event and want to make sure it becomes an even bigger success with more teams and sponsors coming on board.”
064 All Day partner, Arafat “Shago” Gauseb, said that the level of football witnessed at the tournament was of a high quality. “It was as good as it gets.”
City FC’s goalkeeper, Cee-Jay van Wyk (22), was chosen as the player of the tournament for his outstanding display between the sticks throughout the competition.
“I worked hard in previous tournaments but was not acknowledged. It is a relief to know that I have done my best and I am very thankful for being chosen,” he said.
The goalkeeper plays for SFC in Swakopmund.
064 All Day’s Heinrich Tjitombo said the player of the tournament is chosen based on the one that goes the extra mile.
The player of the tournament is set to receive a surprise prize from one of the tournaments sponsors.
