A case of housebreaking and theft was opened after burglars gained entry and removed items from the residence of Xuanting Xie (34), a Chinese national and mining manager in the town.
A woman allegedly approached and lured the security guard stationed at the residence away.
According to the security guard, he accompanied a person claiming to be an NDF member from a base in Usakos, to the nearest shop.
“The lady allegedly wanted directions to the shops in Karibib town. The guard then escorted her and upon his return, found the house had been broken into,” according to Erongo regional commander for community affairs Ileni Shapumba.
The burglars took two laptops, two cellphones, two bank cards and a cash safety box from the house.
“The total value involved is N$119 000. They also withdrew N$87 900 in cash later from the complainant’s card in Okahandja.”
According to Shapumba, the suspects’ vehicle was traced by Okahandja police and stopped roughly 30 km before Okahandja on the way to Otjiwarongo.
“The officers who visited the scene received information about the vehicle used in the commission of the crime and shared the information with neighbouring towns. Three men and one woman were subsequently arrested by the police in Okahandja. All stolen items and money were reportedly recovered. Arrangements are being made to return the suspects to Karibib.”
