Child dies in accident

A 7-year-old girl died in an accident yesterday afternoon (Thursday) at about 17:00 on the B2 road between Arandis and Usakos.

According to Ileni Shapumba, Erongo Police Unit Commander for Community Affairs, a Toyota Prado with three minor passengers and the driver, a 39-year-old American woman, was travelling in a convoy on the B2 road from Windhoek to Swakopmund when the accident happened.

“While travelling between Usakos and Arandis about 37km from Usakos, the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with an oncoming truck. The Prado left the road and landed on its side causing the death of Ndilimeke Elago (7), who is a Namibian. Her next of kin have been informed.”

The driver along with two American children, boys aged four and six, sustained slight injuries while the truck driver did not sustain any injuries.

The deceased's body was taken to Usakos state hospital mortuary for further handling.
