The annual athletics championship sponsored by The Pupkewitz Foundation and organised by the Athletics Development Club takes place at the Vineta stadium on 22 and 23 December.
The event is open to athletes from schools, clubs or private athletes, as well as para athletes aged between 6 and 19 years. The competitors compete on different days: Athletes between 6 and 12 participate on 22 December and those between 13 and 19 and seniors compete on 23 December.
The championships start with the opening at 07:30. According to the program, shot put for boys u/10, long jump girls for u11/12, and 60m baby hurdles for boys aged 9, will be the first items to be contested. After the events, an award ceremony will take place between 12:00 and 13:00 for the best track and field athletes, and where the Victor and Victrix Lodorums as well as best para-athlete will be announced. Relays will take place last.
Entries will be done differently each day: To enter for the competition on 22 December, WhatsApp “Athletics -22” to 0812939987; those wanting to participate on 23 December should WhatsApp “Athletic-23” to the same number. The entry fee is N$50, and every athlete will be allowed to compete in their own gear. “If an individual enters through their school, they should wear school attire, and if it’s a private entry than any sports gear will be allowed,” president of the Swakop Athletics Development Club, Hennie Horn, said. He emphasised that the championship is organised for development purposes, to identify talent, and to train athletes by providing them with an opportunity to participate.
