Burned body found in Swakopmund

07 May 2020 | Crime

A case of murder has been opened after the body of a man suspected to be between 20 and 30 years of age was found in Swakopmund.

According to regional crime coordinator deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, the body was found on Wednesday at around 16:50, dumped and burned inside the old water pump station building next to the Swakopmund River, east of Kramersdorf.

“The man appears to be light in complexion and his body was discovered by three men who alerted the police. It is suspected that the person was murdered somewhere between Tuesday and Wednesday and the body was brought to the pump station where it was set alight.

“A white cellphone, suspected to belong to the victim, and a box of cigarettes were found next to the body. These items were not burned.”

The body was transported to Walvis Bay police mortuary for post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

Anyone who is missing a family member fitting the victim's description is requested to contact deputy commissioner Iikuyu at 081 246 4757 or detective inspector Tjihavero at 081 413 7105 or their nearest police station.

In the meantime, investigations continue.
